Adult Education Classes

Introduction to Judaism- Learn the fundamentals of Jewish thought and practice in 16-20 weeks. This course is perfect for interfaith couples, those from different faith backgrounds, those considering conversion, and Jews looking for an adult-level introduction. with Rabbi Jack Romberg.  Mondays, 7 PM-9 PM, beginning January 22, 2018.  Fee: $215 per person/$260 per couple (fee includes books and materials).

Beginning Hebrew- with Bob Canter.  8 weeks ,Mondays, 6:30 PM-7:30 PM, starts October 9, 2017. Fee: $36 members $46 non- members (includes materials).

Hebrew 2- with Bob Canter.  8 weeks ,Tuesdays, 6:30 PM-7:30 PM, starts October 10, 2017. Fee: $36 members $46 non- members (includes materials).

From the Bimah to Broadway- A seminar on the stories, composers and liturgical chants turned broadway hits. With Rabbi Jack Romberg and Education & Music Director, Stefanie Posner, Mondays, 2 PM-3PM, starts October 16, 2017.  4 week course. Fee: $25 members, $36 non- members.  (includes materials).

Prayerbook Hebrew- Perfect for those who have already taken Hebrew 1 and 2, or for anyone interested in Jewish liturgy. With Bob Canter and Stefanie Posner, Mondays, 3-4PM, starts October 23.  4 week course.  Fee: $25 members, $36 non- members.  (includes materials).

Ongoing Programs

Weekly Torah Study - On Saturdays beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Adult Education Room,join a dedicated group for a close examination and discussion of the Torah. We are conducting the study on a verse-by-verse basis. No prior knowledge of Hebrew is required. The class is instructed in a way that makes it easy to drop in. Books are provided, and of course, every session ends with the traditional shot of Slivovitz.

Lunch and Learn - Wednesdays at noon, bring a brown bag lunch and join Rabbi Romberg in the Temple Adult Education Roomalong with a penchant for "spirited" discussion. Lunch and Learn has covered a wide range of Jewish texts and is currently studying the Pirkei Avot.

Hebrew Reading Circle - This circle has been meeting weekly for several years to read simplified Hebrew texts from modern Hebrew literature. Newcomers welcome. Call 850.385.1538 to speak with Rabbi Stanley Garfein. The group meets Sundays at 11:00 a.m. at the home of Rabbi Garfein.

Tallahassee Jewish Genealogical Society - The society meets once quarterly for programs that involve the sharing of family histories and trees that have been recovered after years of nepenthe (forgetfulness). Membership $5. Contact 850.385.1538 for more information. Meets Sundays at 2:00 p.m., quarterly, in the Adult Ed room.
